A FEW WORDS FROM OUR EXECUTIVE. By Ami McAlpine

A short time ago, in a Facebook post, several of our followers, including members of Westman Jams were questioning the return to our jams. I must admit, I am going into some serious withdrawal here! We discussed this in length, and agree that music would be a wonderful thing right about now. However, with Covid-19 in the neighbourhood,, and given the risks, and rules and regulations, our constitution, and our conscience, we, the executive of Westman Jams do not want to even attempt to open our doors at this time. For one, the two halls are not even open yet. We would have to maintain social distancing, all equipment would need to be sanitized (how would we deal with sharing of mics?) If this is not followed, we risk some pretty heavy fines, and Westman Jams reputation would be on the line, especially if someone should fall ill. We have a lot of seniors and vulnerable people in our midst, we certainly don’t want to risk their health, just to have a jam. Also, with a limit on number of people, we would have to turn people away, which is against our constitution. Sadly, there is just too much risk involved, at this time.
However, we are all of sound mind, and this does not have to mean no music! Several great alternate ideas were bounced around on this FB post, and by all means, if we want to start having little jams around the community, SO BE IT! As long as everyone is smart about it. We do ask that Westman Jams name be left out of the equation, as it always has been if you are hosting a private jam. For the record, it breaks our hearts for things to have to be this way, but, we need to remember this is a temporary thing. Reg’s circle is not broken, nor will it ever be! Don’t stop the music!! Keep playing for all to hear...this is exactly what the world needs right now!
To add, we will be reaching out to all of you to keep you up to speed on how things are progressing. Stay happy and healthy, learn some new songs. We will be having one heck of a grand opening when the doors do open! Let’s all try to keep in touch. Be safe, my friends.
